Avoid Things That Can Steal Your Happiness

Avoid Things that can Steal Your Happiness
Life is a Gift. Enjoy every moment.

When it comes to your happiness, it is something that you must create and protect as much as possible. Happiness is not so much a delicate flower, but rather more like water which can be added and subtracted if you are not careful. You’ll want to protect your happiness by taking the appropriate steps that will ensure you maintain what you have while allowing yourself to be open to more happy times to come.

Create Moments of Happiness, Do not Wait for Them

There is this myth that the perfect moment will arrive and too many people wait for something that rarely, if ever happens. Rest assured that you are the one who creates happiness and there is no need for the right moment to suddenly appear out of nowhere. Instead, you should create the opportunities and then act upon them when you can.

While you don’t want to rush things which may ruin the moment, remember that you are the one who creates them so once you have everything ready, go for it. You won’t regret acting too soon because the truth is that you are the one who sets the time and place for happiness to occur.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions – Dalai Lama

Looking at Others Too Much for Their Examples of Happiness

All too often, people look at the happiness of others and do not remember to focus on their own. There are many things, which help bring happiness in your own life, and writing them down so you can remember and focus on the feelings is one way to bring them back. You should not be trying to live other people’s lives, but your own. While what happens to others can serve as an example, ultimately it is you that decides your fate.

The actions you take will determine the happiness in your life, so be bold and start making your dreams of being happy come true.

Let Go of Your Fears and Worries

If you fear something will become true, then you are helping it to become a reality. While fear can be a good thing as it warns us about potential issues that may arise, it also must be kept in perspective so that it doesn’t overwhelm our thinking. You can either do something about an issue that arises or you cannot, it does you no good to worry about it. This is important because being worried adds stress to your life that can cause major health issues if left unchecked. So, let go of your worries and keep fear in its place.

“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” Leo Buscaglia

Let Go of the Hate

When you consider that only light can drive away the darkness then only love can push out hate. This may be difficult for many to do as the only way to let go of the hate is to forgive those who have caused it. However, it is the only path otherwise the hate will eat you up inside if you let it fester. By not letting go, the hate for others turns inward as you hate yourself for feeling the way you do. This is why when you recognize that the hate is not subsiding to let it go

Do Not Work Without Reward

If you are not interested in your work, then you are punishing yourself on a daily basis. What you do does not have to be your passion, but if it doesn’t interest you then it will wind up owning so much of your time with no reward to show. If you are not happy with the work that you do, then start making the necessary changes so that you can go to something that is more interesting and fills your time with reward rather than wallowing in sorrow because it does not bring self-fulfillment.

Seek Long Term Self-fulfillment

While it is great to get an ice cream cone or other fleeting bit of happiness every so often, your overall goals should be one of finding long term or enduring fulfillment which will bring you true happiness. While it may take longer and require more work, the joy that is derived from enduring fulfillment will be far greater and longer lasting than going constantly for the fleeting moments. However, if you get the chance to grab a fleeting moment without cost to your long term plans, then do so as you’ve earned it.

“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.” – Oprah Winfrey

Take Action or Ignore the Problem

It is said that there are only two ways to deal with a problem, either hit it head on and solve it or ignore it and perhaps it will go away. There are times when ignoring a problem may actually be the right solution, but the real point is that you should not dwell on what or what not to do. Dwelling on problems increases stress levels and creates an unhealthy and unhappy mental state. If you are faced with a problem, then you either need to take action or put it out of your mind.

“In any situation, the best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Let Go of Those who Hurt You

Someone who hurts you on a regular basis is not worth keeping, so let them go. When two people get together there is a chemistry that occurs which will either bring out the best or worst in someone and that reaction is not all that predictable. But when your significant other is mistreating you, then it is time for you to go. Otherwise, happiness will never be in reach.

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Change the World One Step at a Time

Finally, if you want to make a difference in this world, do so a little at a time. Trying to make big changes all at once simply leads to unhappiness which only discourages you from trying again. Instead, make a difference in another person’s life or perhaps just a few and see how the effects ripple out like waves on the water. By making little changes here and there, you provide happiness to others who can then spread that feeling outward as well.

It is often the little things that make people the happiest, so focus on what can be accomplished and you’ll find yourself feeling happier more often.

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. ” – Mother Teresa
